Im a sucker for gem stones. The vibrant crystals, cracks and centers are just so corusacating. This piece was fun because I used a lot more blue than came out, but im also glad it came out with a lot less. The blue river-like veins between the masses of bare stone give that naturalistic terrain feel. I used mostly gold and copper for the darker tones and maybe two blues. So, this was a rather simple selection. The pour was the two blues poured in the center and then then golds and coppers on top of the blue. I let the paint mesh together, which is where the veins began to show. And then a bit of a stretch to reach the canvas edges. Once dried, I finished the blue with bits of bright blue oil paint. Oil paint stays very glossy and a bit of thickness to it, giving a more rugid look. I call it “Venae Aquae Terrae”, which is Latin for the “Veins of Earth’s Water”.
