This is my proudest piece to date. I began to push more into the “floating panel” style where the .25 inch painted panel is suspended away from the backboard about an inch and then spaced away from the frame edges, revealing the back panel. This creates a visual perspective mat border.

I framed the piece with a rare tropical wood known as Sapele(sa-pee-lee). The wood is harvested from West and East Africa within the tropical rainforests. It has a beautiful rich golden brown hue with bits of gold and red that glisten in the light.

The name is Nadare, which stands for “Avalanche” in Japanese as the color variations represent unsettled bright white snow and piercing blue ice falling down a mountain side.
